July 1st 2018 saw the announcement of a ban on the use of single use plastic bags by major Supermarket outlets like Woolworths and Coles who are now single-use plastic bag free. More than 5 billion plastic bags are handed out at the checkout every year in Australia, less than 4% are recycled, and the remainder survive in the environment for thousands of years.
